WordPress Dash

Sunday, June 26th, 2005

A quick Sunday night note about something I wanted to blog about last week, but didn’t get a chance.

WordPressDash. A Dashboard Widget for WordPress, and it works REALLY well. Super cool. In fact, I’m writing this post on it now. If you’ve got Tiger, and you love WordPress. Get it. Now.

I hope that everyone had a wonderful weekend. I spent it camping and wakeboarding up at Lake McClure. Pictures to come…

Make haste slowly.

Nate explained it to me many times, as truly as being something that has become his doctrine on life. He learned it from his original mentor. Now as he departs for business school, he’s left it with me.

It means, work hard, work well, but always keep your eye on the big perspective.

Don’t get caught up in what you’re doing so that you can’t see the bigger picture.

A fitting entry for the davemorin.com/blog quotebook.

Genius.

Seth’s Right.

Tuesday, June 21st, 2005

Marketing is not about trickery or even insincerity. It’s about spreading ideas that you believe in, sharing ideas you’re passionate about… and doing it with authenticity. Marketing is about treating prospects and customers with respect, and realizing that it’s easier to grow the amount of business you do with happy people than it is to find new strangers to accost.

Seth Godin hit another home run today, with one of the best posts I have ever seen in the blogosphere.

He’s right. Marketing does have a marketing problem. Seth’s an “agent of change.” And, you, me, and everyone else that fancies themselves a marketer should be too. Everyone can use a little true marketing in their quiver.

The marketing industry is full of tons of people with amazing ideas. These ideas need to get to “market.” They need to help show fantastic things, ideas, and experiences to fantastic people.

Go talk to your marketing people. Or, read my blog. Or Seth’s blog. Or Amit’s blog. Or Tom Peter’s blog. Marketers are here to infuse you with passion. To show you fantastic ideas. To evolve and amaze you with what you can do with YOUR ideas.

What happens when the barriers (physical and theoretical) between sales, operations, marketing, and the executive wing come down? Fantastic experiences happen. Lives change. And, ear-to-ear smiles happen. Trust me, I’ve been at that crossroads. It’s amazing.

Shouldn’t you be there too? (Or at least PUSHING to get there?)

Happy Monday!

Monday, June 20th, 2005

Back from a great weekend in the midwest, and roaring to go for a new week here in Silicon Valley. A quick link for you from the blogosphere this afternoon. Tom Peters points out a peculiar and mostly hilarious article in USA Today.

Ta-Da Lists!

Thursday, June 16th, 2005

Ta-Da Lists are fantastic! I’ve been singing praises of 37signals for months, but their products, ideas, and mission continue to blow me away!

More web application developers, and application developers in general, need to concentrate on design and simplicity. They’ve taken something that we all love and need and made it infinitely better: the To-Do list.

Ta-da lists are web-based, free, fantastically designed, use RSS, are shareable, and brilliantly designed. I’m addicted! You must check it out now!.
