Clarification
Just to clarify, as I have been getting quite a few responses to my last post. AMEX did not steal my idea. Nor am I necessarily sure they stole anyone’s idea. But, woot.com, as far as I knew, were the pioneers behind the “one day, one deal” idea.
I was originally pointed to woot.com by Seth Godin’s blog, back in September of 2004.
Sorry for the confusion. Happy Monday ![]()

To the best of my knowledge, AMEX has been doing the brilliant My Wish List promotion for 2 years now and not just for Chrismakwanzakah. Even if the concept did come from Woot, the spin and the marketing that AMEX has wrapped around it makes sets is far apart from Woot. It’s such a perfect package - it’s reflective of AMEX’s premium brand and it does a fantastic job of playing on consumers’ materialism during a time of the year when materialism is widely embraced. It gets people riled up…
Damn, I should’ve won that Range Rover Sport HSE. That thing was mine! I clicked first!
