Fom Pillows

I travel a lot for work. Thus I get to spend lots of time people watching in airports. It’s great fun and it’s easy to spot trends in what people are carrying with them. It’s also a great time for thinking about what people might want to carry with them. That’s the mind of a marketer for you.

Fom pillows are brilliant! (say like the guiness ads…which themselves are brilliant) I sit here on the runway in Chicago about to take off for San Francisco and I have seen more Fom pillows in the airports this holiday season than any other one item (another one just got on the plane). The startling thing to me is that I didn’t see a single one in any of my prior trips last quarter. Insane! The cool thing is, not only is the product idea itself brilliant, but it’s design and packaging are as well. Not only does it work, it works to the point of perfection. Brillant design, touch, and function.

“Stuff it against the window, stuff it behind your neck. Marvel at its uncommon texture. Sleep like you’ve never slept on an airplane before.”

Sometimes the best inventions are the ones that cure a problem that everyone has. In this case, everyone hates the pillows on airplanes. Not everyone even gets one of those sneaky little pillows. The airlines answered with those adjustable U-ish shaped head things that rub against your ear funny. They work, but they don’t solve the problem. Find a way to solve an every day problem that we all have. Not only will people love you, you’ll make a lot of money. Trust me, if you have the problem, your mom has the problem, and your best friend has the problem…it’s worth developing a fix ;) Talk to your friends, champion your idea, apply great design (Then make a travel version).
