Good News.

I spent most of my life growing up ski racing. Even did a tour for a few years on the Junior Olympic ski team. The entire time you spend learning to ski race, you trust your skills but you also know that you can fundamentally hurt quite a few things. If you eat it. Primarily you worry the most about two things, your knees. You see your friend spiral fracture femurs, blow ACLs, and tear apart MCLs. Most of the time the accidents are the kind of catacalysmic accidents you’d rather never have even heard about.

Once you’re done ski racing, and not skiing 100+ days a year, you drop out of great skiing shape. In recent years I’ve been working a lot more, and skiing a lot less (something I’d like to change by hitting Tahoe many more times this coming season). This leaves one wide open for scary “weekend warrior” injuries.

In March, skiing at Kirkwood, I took a fall which normally would not have hurt me. But, tweaked my right knee pretty badly. Its been hurting on a daily basis ever since. I’ve gone through various tests to ensure that I can still bike, wakeboard, and ski without tearing something worse. But, hadn’t had the test of all tests yet. An MRI.

Until last week.

Results are in:

MRI Right Knee

Findings:
The medial collateral ligament, lateral ligamentous complex, and the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments are normal in course and signal. The medial and lateral menisci are unremarkable. The extensor mechanism is intact. The patellar and trochlear groove cartilage are unremarkable. There is no joint effusion or Baker cyst. The bone marrow signal is within normal limits. the rest of the soft tissues surrongint the knee joint are unremarkable.

So, if the MRI looks so good, why does it still hurt all the time?
