Jelly Talks: Facebook Connect & OpenID – User Experience

Jelly Talks!

Yesterday we hosted the second OpenID User Experience Summit at Facebook. It was a fantastic success with much progress made towards a better user experience for OpenID and a more open and connected community around the support of the emerging standard.

The third Jelly Talk featuring Chris Messina and I discussing Facebook Connect and OpenID. Serendipitously, in this portion of the talk we discuss the OpenID user experience and how it can be made better. Enjoy!

Thank you Dave to point out that Facebook's job is mostly dealing with the abuse. I was pointing out yesterday how that is silenced on the official blog — to stay "professional and smiling". Regarding user experience, I see great testimonies every where, both on-line and off-line.

I think that Chris is right to point out that what you are trying to do is natural on the desktop (well, the Mac actually); he should have insisted on how natural this was, in addition to what a shore it is to set up — because you can't afford major leaks. I like the evolutionnary argument, but hackers are intelligent and self-aware in a way that viruses are not.

However, the biggest lack was the absence of example of great consequences that having your data on-line rather then just saying how hard it is — "Obama administration" is certainly positive, but a little vague. How OpenID helps mediated against representative democracy? Is it a good thing to compare Zuckerberg to Montesquieu, rather then understand the details of what made Obama?
