Wireless Portability
Many of you may not know, but on November 24th the FCC has mandated that all wireless carriers allow you to take your current number with you if you switch to a new carrier. I think this is the best thing ever for one of the most utilized technologies in our lives today. Previously, each carrier could essentially create a mini-monopoly over it’s current customers by locking them into contracts and large fees. But the biggest kicker, holding people back, was that you could not take your number with you.
The time has come to open up this market, create competition, and drive prices down to a more reasonable level. I am tired of wireless companies employing worthless advertising dollars on 7 figure celebrities and then passing the costs off on it’s customers by marking up phones and marking up plans. By creating a more competative market, the carriers which begin to listen to their customers and innovate with technologies making wireless easier to use will come out on top. I know I myself have been waiting for this move to be made for quite some time, and will be promptly switching carriers on the 25th. Wonderful.
